. this is a far cry from what san francisco mayor ed lee was talking about just a couple of days ago when he was thinking it might be best to limit serving up bar and alcohol on super bowl sunday. lee of course trying to prevent a repeat of the type of vandalism after the giants won the world series. not a ban, but an idea to serve responsibly. patrons said it really doesn't make sense to have this, and unfortunately, when it comes to vandalism, people use booze as an excuse. this quest for six, it might be a tough sell to limit the party. >> well, i think it's crazy. you can't make -- without partying in san francisco. we party for everything. just heard this is for one thing, for another thing, just cause more problems. >> a certain segment of people who are just kind of idiots! and they would do it any way. >> yeah, it doesn't matter. >> now, the city is also looking at different plans including the police approach. from what they learned after the world series, muni is also reviewing its plan, too, after a bus was vandalized following the world series. the spokesperson says they've got t

in san francisco now challenging the city's ban on public nudity today. activists filing a federal lawsuit claiming the ban violates their right to freedom of everything and expression. they want the court to issue an injunction against that ban which is set to take effect february 1st. city attorneys, they say the court has upheld nudity banses in other cities in the bay area. a hearing will be held in federal court this afternoon. >>> we could find out today if the bay area's newest casino gets to open its penthouse gaming floor. san jose's police chief is stepping down tomorrow. but he has promised to make a decision about casino matrix's eighth floor before he leaves. the penthouse is designed to offer high-stakes gambling and a panoramic view of silicon valley. the chief, kris moore, has expressed concerns over the casino's ability to safely monitor activity on that top floor. >> all right. >>> you and i have been talking about this all day. perfect timing. good weather, today is thursday, that means tomorrow is friday. christina loren is bringing it all for us. >> i am. and y

without bail that hearing today is set for 2:00. >>> this morning, san francisco police continuing the search for a man wanted for dousing his girlfriend with gasoline and then setting her on fire. they say 22-year-old dexter oliver attacked her yesterday afternoon near the intersection of hollister around jennings in the city's bay view district. 25-year-old star lamar is now in critical condition in the burn unit at st. francis hospital. she has severe burns to her face and chest. family members say oliver became enrage when lamar told him their relationship was over. >> gasoline and a bottle and he let her know he was gonna burn her. >> police say oliver is 5'10", about 155 pounds, has a haircut with a lightning bolt on one side of his head ander fish designs on the other. >>> peninsula police are looking for the person who shot a teenaged girl near a local high school. the girl was found saturday night across from cappuccino high school in millbrae. this morning, she is in stable condition. the shooting is a rain stance of gun violence in a relatively quiet area. officer does n

. the pilot has been identified from san francisco. i wanted to bring it back live. here with me this morning is lieutenant commander rick foster of the coast guard. good morning. >> morning. >> what's been going on thus far this morning with the investigation? >> the investigation is ongoing. we've interviewed a number of key personnel for the safe operation and navigation of the vessel. and we've conducted some alcohol and drug testing which is standard procedure. our marine inspectors are on the vessel doing structural integrity-type testing as well as our investigators are on board the vessel right now conducting interviews with the crew and just gathering as much data as possible. >> reporter: one of the things we heard yesterday is that visibility may have been a factor, it was reduced to maybe quarter of a mile. how do you look into that as a factor? >> we want to first determine what the visibility was. and of course the investigation will help with that. but that said, visibility as you know in the bay area here could always be a challenge. these vessels are pretty technically advanc

you over the weekend. san francisco police hope new video will help them catch a man who attacked a woman and threw her dog into the street. the attack happened on december 28th near the corner of leavenworth street and golden gate avenue. the suspect approached a woman, adamed money, and grabbed her small dog and threw it into the oncoming traffic. the dog had to be put down because of its injuries. the reward money from private donations has topped $3,000 so far. >>> right now to developing news we've been following all morning long, san francisco police right now searching for as many as five men who robbed a home at gunpoint over night in the city's outer richmond district. nbc bay area's christie smith is live outside that home right now. christie, what's the latest? >> reporter: good morning, jon. the students who live in this unit behind me are completely shaken up. they say it was about 3:00 in the morning when some men kicked in the front door, demanding money and marijuana. they made them get down on the floor while they searched for it. >> i've never had a gun in my fac

happened to michaela but goes on to say, quote, the feeling i felt was a sense of relief. >>> san francisco police are hoping surveillance video will help them catch a suspected killer. police say this video right here shows a clean-shaven man with long hair walking with 46-year-old alia cruz back in october. that man was seen answering cruz's apartment in the tenderloin district. later that night, officers responded to a report of a disturbance at that same apartment and found cruz stabbed to death. as of now, investigators say there is no motive for this killing. anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to call police. >>> a bizarre ending to a home invasion in pittsburg. police say the woman, her boyfriend and two others staged a burglary to intimidate the husband and force him to move out. the husband called police tuesday to report a man breaking into his apartment on leland road. then the husband reportedly stabbed and killed the intruder after a fight. it turned out, the intruder was carrying a replica gun. the husband was not hurt and police say he will not be charged.

a chilly start to the day this morning from san francisco all the way to san jose. christina loren joins us with a look at the weekend. >> the weekend has arrived. and that's the good news, it's going to be cold. i wish i had some good numbers for you this weekend. not looking so good. it's cold out there right now, we're going to stay cold saturday and sunday. there's not a lot you can do. on saturday and sunday, for instance, 49ers game. we'll have the forecast in just a minute. 45 degrees in concord. 52 in san jose, gilroy, still in the 40s. the jet stream is taking a nice dip to the south. we're going to get some showers as we head through the evening hours, highs today, not that warm at all. lower 50s and upper 40s. so a few showers as we head throughout the evening hours, most i had between 3:00 and 7:00 as we get into the weekend. 49ers are playing, 48 degrees at 7:00 p.m. it's going to be cold out there kickoff. 5:00 p.m. don't want to miss the game. let's go san francisco. as we get into the weekend, a nice cold finish. we'll warm up next week, up to 60 on thursday? >> we'll hold o
